Page Capture
Capture the entire page as a PNG or PDF — not just what's on screen.
Scrolls the page one viewport at a time, stitches the screenshots at full retina resolution and downloads a PNG or a single-page PDF. No libraries, nothing leaves the browser.
- Full-page or drag-to-select area capture
- Retina-resolution PNG and PDF output
- Minimal permissions — activeTab only
Features
What Page Capture does
Full-page capture
Auto-detects the element that really scrolls — the window, or the largest scrollable container on app-style sites — and stitches every screen.
Selected-area capture
Inject a drag-to-select overlay (Esc cancels) and crop the screenshot to exactly the rectangle you drew.
PNG and PDF
A result tab shows a preview and auto-downloads your chosen format. Both buttons stay available so you can grab the other format too.
Fixed headers handled
Fixed bars are hidden after the first screen so they don't repeat in every slice.
Zero-dependency PDF
The PDF is generated in about sixty lines of vanilla JavaScript — a single page with an embedded JPEG.
Under the hood
How it works
No magic, no server. Here's what actually happens when you use it.
- 01
Click and choose
Pick PNG or PDF from the popup, or switch to area mode.
- 02
Scroll & shoot
The extension scrolls one viewport at a time and screenshots each with captureVisibleTab.
- 03
Stitch & save
The viewer tab composes the screens on one canvas at device-pixel resolution and downloads with a plain <a download> link — no downloads permission needed.
Transparency
Every permission, explained
Chrome shows you a list at install time. This is the list, and why each item is there.
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
| activeTab | Screenshot only the tab you click on, only when you click. |
| scripting | Inject the scroll helper and the area-select overlay into that tab. |
| storage | Hand the captured screens to the viewer tab. |
| alarms, notifications | Check the TaskGo announcement feed every 6 hours. |

Honest notes
Known limitations
Things it can't do, so you don't have to find out the hard way.
- Sites with several independent scroll containers capture only the largest one.
- position: sticky bars may repeat once per screen (fixed bars are handled).
- Very long pages are capped at 50 screens; the result notes if capped.
- Chrome pages, the Web Store and PDF viewer tabs can't be captured — Chrome blocks screenshots there.
- Don't switch tabs mid-capture; Chrome can only screenshot the active tab.
